In The News: New recreational trail open for outdoor enthusiasts (published 3/3/11)

Take a look at the Belchertown Land Trust Trail Network map.

In addition to the extensive hazardous waste site cleanup done around the Upper Bondsville Dam, we have:

  • acquired the trail along the Swift River which ensures continuous access from 181 to the boat launch at Red Bridge;

  • acquired sections of the recreation path from Franklin Street in South Belchertown to the Tri-Lakes;

  • surveyed and cleared sections of this path in partnership with the Mill Valley Snowmobile Club with funding from CPA, thereby providing open access to all residents for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding and snowmobiling;

  • maintained the trails at Piper Farm (town property) for a number of years, which is now maintained by the town;

  • built the parking area at Piper Farm on Maple Street near the center of town;

  • provided a technology integration grant in the amount of $2,500 to the Belchertown School System that is being used for educational programs for the Lake Wallace area.

We are continuously working on securing the necessary funding to build non-paved parking lots (grass or gravel) at several of the recreational areas we maintain and offer to the public.
